What is environmental and recycling technology?

The Environmental and Recycling Technology degree programme focuses on interdisciplinary methods for protecting the environment and recovering raw materials. New technologies for the recovery of secondary raw materials (e.g. recycling of electronic waste),
Energy recovery from waste (e.g. biowaste, substitute fuels), processes for
Reduction of air pollution, wastewater treatment, technical measures for water, soil and noise protection as well as the metrological recording and monitoring of pollutants and environmental damage demonstrate the range of environmental and recycling technology.

Fields of work

With a degree in environmental and recycling technology, you can work in many areas, such as recycling companies, the raw materials industry, in project planning and the construction of plants, in process and environmental engineering companies and in the public sector. Self-employment or a career in research and teaching are also possible.

Do you want to protect the environment and develop technologies that simplify recycling and reduce environmental pollution? Then the Environmental and Recycling Technology degree programme is just right for you.

With us, you will learn to apply interdisciplinary methods to protect the environment and recycle raw materials. You will deal with new technologies for the extraction of secondary raw materials, energy generation from waste and processes for reducing air pollution.

Your studies will also include wastewater treatment, technical measures for water, soil and noise protection as well as the measurement and monitoring of pollutants and environmental damage.

In numerous laboratory practicals and excursions, you will learn how these techniques are implemented in practice. Our "ThIWert" research centre is particularly exciting, where you can work on practical research projects.

The degree programme comprises a combination of compulsory and elective modules. The first

Both semesters teach the engineering sciences in a practical and project-based way.

Basic knowledge. The second stage of the programme focuses on environmental and recycling technology and

The focus is on integration into existing systems. The programme ends with a

Final module, which offers a practical and professionally qualifying degree.

The degree programme is aimed at anyone who is interested in engineering sciences and

have environmental protection. A good understanding of natural sciences and solid

Knowledge of English is an advantage. Ideal for committed people who are actively involved in the

shaping a sustainable future.

With a degree in Environmental and Recycling Engineering, you will have a wide range of career opportunities in a variety of fields related to technology, business and science:

  • Recycling companies and the raw materials industry: Work in companies that deal with the recovery of raw materials and the efficient utilisation of waste.
  • Project planning and plant engineering: Design and build environmental and recycling technology systems.
  • Process and environmental technology: Develop and implement innovative processes for waste and wastewater treatment and air pollution control.
  • Public service: Use your skills in the field of environmental protection in authorities and public institutions.
  • Self-employment: Start your own business in the field of environmental and recycling technology.
  • Research and teaching: Work at universities or research institutions and contribute to the further development of environmental and recycling technologies. Our research centre "ThIWert" offers you the opportunity to work on practical projects and gain valuable practical experience. Thanks to our well-maintained network of regional and national industry contacts, you will have excellent opportunities to enter the labour market after graduation.

When applying for a Bachelor's degree programme, you must submit a simple copy of the

University entrance qualification (high school diploma or other suitable certificates in pdf-format)

format) after registering in the applicant portal.
