A statement by Prof Dr Matthias Viehmann - Professor and expert in industrial electronics at Nordhausen University of Applied Sciences

Prof. Dr.-Ing. Matthias Viehmann

Prof. Dr.-Ing. Matthias Viehmann

If you look around you as you read this, you will realise that you are surrounded by numerous electronic devices and other everyday and special technology. It is not often that you consciously ask yourself who actually came up with the technology and how it is manufactured. In any case, it is clear that we will not want to or be able to do without technology in the future.

As electronics are necessary in almost every device and automation is required for the production of devices and systems, these specialisms are future-proof. Their close links to automotive engineering, energy technology, medical technology, communication technology, computer technology, mechanical engineering, environmental technology, process engineering, drive and transport technology ensure that there is a future demand for automation and electronics.

What kind of people are involved in automation and electronics? They have an analytical mindset, take a systematic approach to solving problems, have extensive specialist knowledge and master their development tools. From personal experience, I would like to add one aspect. For an engineer, there is hardly a better moment than when he puts a technology he has developed into operation and it works. I am always happy to share this joy with the students. Thinking analytically and acting systematically are good prerequisites for a successful career.

As my colleagues and I have repeatedly noticed the future security and the increasing interpenetration of the fields of study of automation and electronics, the Bachelor's degree programme in Automation and Electronics has been offered since 2013. "Automation and Electronics Engineering" offered in Nordhausen. Despite its international name, the degree programme is taught in German. It imparts specialised knowledge and develops skills in the use of development tools. It can be assumed that all graduates will find a job, as was the case with the previous Computer Engineering programme. This is indicated by the enquiries I have already received from national and international companies.

The new application phase for the degree programme has begun. Find out more details on the homepage or send me an e-mail at . I would be delighted if I could give you a lecture in one of my courses in the degree programme "Automation and Electronics Engineering" encounter. The homepage also contains information about our second information technology degree programme "Internet - Technology and Applications" ready for you.
