The welcoming address was given by Prof. Dr.-Ing. Wudtke, Head of the Thuringian Innovation Centre for Recyclable Materials (ThIWert) and Dean of Studies for Geotechnical Engineering. In his speech, Prof. Wudtke emphasised the important role that the new institute will play in combining research and teaching. "Our aim is to combine the Bachelor's degree programmes in Environmental and Recycling Technology and Geotechnical Engineering as well as the Master's degree programme in Environmental and Recycling Technology with the work of ThIWert and thus make optimum use of the synergies," explained Wudtke.

Viktor Wesselak, Vice President for Research and Development, emphasised the importance of the new institute in his speech: "A visible brand to the outside world - that is the idea behind our institutes. With the founding of RESSIN, we are now establishing the third institute that will further strengthen our GreenTech research focus, which is a central brand core of our university."

University President Prof Dr Jörg Wagner also offered his greetings and recalled Nordhausen University's long-standing tradition in resource research: "Since I started at the university in 2000, there has been a strong focus on resource projects. Numerous initiatives in the field of recycling have emerged since then. RESSIN will now bring these projects together under one roof and further increase our visibility and appeal to the outside world."

RESSIN will complete the Faculty of Engineering at Nordhausen University of Applied Sciences and link the fields of environmental and recycling technology and geotechnics. A central contact point for regional and national companies will be created to promote scientific contract research. Professors Uta Breuer, Sylvia Dannewitz, Michael Rutz, Sebastian Schmidt and Robert Wudtke, who are associated with ThIWert, will be actively involved in this process.

Another highlight is the new Bachelor's degree programme in Environmental Engineering, which will start in 2025. The "Praxis+" dual degree programme in particular will strengthen the link between business, research and teaching and thus make an important contribution to practice-oriented education.

With the founding of RESSIN, Nordhausen University of Applied Sciences is setting another milestone in its development and consolidating its position as a leading institution in the field of environmental and recycling technology.
