On 27 June, it was that time again. The 12th grade physics course at the Berufliches Gymnasium Nordhausen was a guest at the Nordhausen University of Applied Sciences, accompanied by their physics teacher Angela Hamann, who had organised this continuation of the tradition together with Prof. Dr.-Ing.

The focus was on a lecture by Professor Viehmann on measurement technology and diagnostics in engineering and a seminar by Professor Thomas Hühn on communication technology and WLAN. Both events attracted a great deal of attention from the young people and complemented the specialised grammar school education with clarity and practical relevance.

"I'm always pleased when I can supplement technical education with events like this and contribute to student orientation. I realise time and again how important it is to develop an idea of engineering activities when I supervise seminar papers at secondary schools. And when people ask me for a study recommendation - first a solid Bachelor's degree at a small university with excellent support from the lecturers, then a Master's degree elsewhere. This ensures self-confidence and study discipline," emphasises Matthias Viehmann.

The pupils were able to get a taste of Nordhausen campus life. In addition to the lectures, there were lab tours and insights into lecture theatres - first impressions of student life. "I like to embed the lecture in my physics lessons. It dovetails the educational content of both institutions and gives an indication of how the courses at colleges and universities are organised. The university and secondary school benefit from it on both sides," explains Angela Hamann. Both she and Professor Viehmann don't have to think long about continuing it, especially as this tradition fits in very well with Nordhausen University's current sponsorship programme with the surrounding grammar schools.
