Nordhausen University of Applied Sciences is strengthening its team of professors in the field of sustainable energy supply: Prof Dr Sebastian Voswinckel has been appointed Professor of "Power-to-X Technologies and Sector Coupling". University President Prof. Dr Jörg Wagner presented the official certificate of appointment to the energy expert on 10 April, who will help shape teaching, research and practice transfer in the field of cross-sector energy solutions at the university in future.

Prof. Dr.-Ing. Voswinckel has extensive experience in applied research and development. From 2009 to 2019, he was a research assistant at the Institute for Regenerative Energy Technology (in.RET) at the Nordhausen University of Applied Sciences. He then headed the Electrical Energy Systems department at the same institute until 2021. From 2021 to 2024, he served as deputy head of the PtX Lab Lausitz, Zukunft - Umwelt - Gesellschaft gGmbH in Cottbus.

His professorship focuses on connecting the electricity sector with the heating and mobility sectors. The aim is to advance the energy transition, particularly in the industrial and transport sectors. The focus here is on technologies for heat generation (e.g. the use of heat pumps), the production and use of green hydrogen and also synthetic fuels and base materials (e.g. climate-neutral methanol, PtL paraffin) for international air and sea transport and the chemical industry. Sector coupling does not only mean technological coupling, the requirements must also be harmonised. This means utilising the additional demand for renewable energies as efficiently as possible.

With this new professorship, Nordhausen University of Applied Sciences is setting a further example for future-orientated research and teaching in the field of sustainable energy supply.
