Home | Nordhausen University of Applied Sciences appoints anti-Semitism officer - for protection, solidarity and sensitisation
2 June 2025
Nordhausen University of Applied Sciences has appointed an anti-Semitism officer for the first time. With this newly created role, the university is sending out a clear signal against all forms of hostility towards Jews and in favour of an open university culture that is sensitive to discrimination.
"Jewish life is often invisible, especially after 7 October 2023 - even at universities," says Prof. Dr Cordula Borbe, the first anti-Semitism officer at Nordhausen University of Applied Sciences. "This invisibility is isolating. It is our joint task to make the university a place of encounter where everyone can feel safe and no one has to deny their origin."
The Anti-Semitism Officer is the point of contact for students and employees, advises on incidents and is involved in the development of preventative measures. She will also initiate educational formats to strengthen knowledge about Jewish history and the present and counteract anti-Semitic patterns of thought and behaviour.
"Anti-Semitism is not an issue of the past or of individual universities - it affects us all in the here and now," emphasises the university management. "The appointment of the commissioner is an important step towards greater protection, solidarity and sensitisation."
