Nordhausen/Gernrode. The Institute for Renewable Energy Technology (in.RET) at Nordhausen University of Applied Sciences will be taking part in the 3rd Environment Day in Gernrode on 30 August 2026 with its own information stand. Organised by Umweltaktion Gernrode, the event will take place from 11.00 am to 4.00 pm at the fairground and in the Gernrode community hall, under the motto: „Protect the environment – save the climate“

Alongside exhibitions on heat pumps, solar power, cycling and forest conservation, nurseries, schools and numerous regional organisations are also showcasing their environmental projects.
The Institute for Renewable Energy Technology Nordhausen University of Applied Sciences will offer visitors a practical insight into the possibilities offered by modern energy system analyses. The focus will be on a scientifically developed energy system modelling tool that can be used to compare different supply options for private households.
Members of the public who are interested can submit details of their annual electricity and heating consumption to the university team even before Environment Day.
On this basis, the institute produces two model calculations:
The results will be explained on Environment Day during a one-to-one consultation at the university’s information stand. Participants will be given a clear comparison of the two scenarios and will learn how different energy supply concepts can affect their household energy costs. The focus is on the scientific modelling and visualisation of various energy systems. The aim is to present these interrelationships in an accessible way and to provide a sound basis for personal decisions regarding energy supply.
This analysis does not constitute energy advice within the meaning of consumer or building energy advice, nor does it replace such advice. Individual energy advice may only be provided by suitably qualified specialist advisers. The University’s service is intended solely for the purposes of scientific modelling and the comparison of different energy scenarios.
Through this contribution, Nordhausen University of Applied Sciences aims to demonstrate how scientific methods can help to explain the complex issues surrounding the energy transition in an accessible way and provide members of the public with practical insights into possible developments in their energy supply.

After analysing the data, the institute’s team will draw up two scientific scenarios – one based on renewable energy sources and one based on fossil fuels. The results will be presented on 30 August 2026 explained during a face-to-face meeting at the Nordhausen University of Applied Sciences stand.
