Under the motto "Experience, be amazed, join in", Nordhausen University of Applied Sciences combined its Open Day with the Long Night of Science for the first time on 24 May 2025 - creating a diverse event format that met with a great response.

We will be happy to receive further images and add them to our picture gallery.

Hundreds of visitors from near and far took the opportunity to get to know the university in all its facets: prospective students found out about the Bachelor's and Master's degree programmes and further education courses on offer, families discovered hands-on stations, children built robots and wind turbines, while technology fans, researchers and the curious were impressed by experiments, lectures and laboratory tours well into the evening hours.

Accompanied by good weather - which not only the organisers, but also the many outdoor stands were happy about - there was a lively, open and curious atmosphere on campus throughout the day.

University President Prof Dr Jörg Wagner is also satisfied: "It is impressive how our teaching staff, employees and students have jointly conveyed such a lively image of the university."

Diversity you can touch

The programme ranged from laboratory experiments and children's programmes to science shows, drone demonstrations and future topics such as artificial intelligence, sustainability and digitalisation. Numerous degree programmes presented themselves with information and hands-on formats.

There was no shortage of food and drink either: in addition to delicious dishes in the canteen, an ice cream van, a popcorn station, candy floss and slush ice, students from the KARZER student club were also out and about on campus with their iconic "ROLLBERT" drinks van - mobile, cheerful and in the thick of things.

Positive feedback also comes from the specialist departments:

"We were very pleased with the lively interest in our stand," report Prof. Dr Thorsten Schaumberg and Prof. Dr Maik Arnold from the Social Management degree programme. "Many visitors had obviously prepared specifically for their visit, asked well-founded questions and showed great interest in the content and career prospects of our degree programme. We very much hope that we will see some of them again in our lectures in the coming winter semester."

Community that supports

The commitment of the entire university team deserves special mention: numerous employees, lecturers, researchers, students and external partners contributed ideas, time, energy and, last but not least, their heart and soul to the success of the event. "A format like this only works if everyone pulls together - and with joy," emphasises the organisation team.

Premiere with potential

For the first time, the Open Day and the Long Night of Science at Nordhausen University of Applied Sciences were organised as a joint format - an experiment that met with a positive response from many guests.

The organisation team welcomes feedback and suggestions so that this can become a sustainable event model. Whether praise, criticism or creative ideas: Feedback is expressly welcome in order to further develop the format in a targeted manner in the future - or to boldly rethink it.
