On Wednesday, 13 November 2024, the traditional and now 8th Child Protection Conference took place at Nordhausen University of Applied Sciences. With the topic "Between curiosity and boundary violations - sexualised violence among children and young people", the event attracted numerous professionals, experts and interested parties from the region and beyond.

Prof. Kunde-Siegel will present in front of a slide entitled "Working with young people with paedophilia as an interdisciplinary contribution to child protection and the prevention of sexualised violence against children". The lecture will take place as part of the Child Protection Conference 2024.

After the opening by the President of the university, Prof. Dr Jörg Wagner, and the 1st deputy of the district of Nordhausen, Stefan Nüßle, Prof. Dr Stefan Kunde-Siegel, Professor of Social Psychiatry, introduced the topic. His lecture on interdisciplinary work with young people with paedophilic tendencies provided important impulses for child protection and the prevention of sexualised violence.

The afternoon offered participants the opportunity to gain deeper insights into key child protection topics in three parallel specialist sessions:

- Child sexuality and borderline behaviour (Astrid Herrmann-Haase)

- Sexual assault among young people (Danilo Ziemen)

- Sexuality of children and adolescents with cognitive disabilities (Katharina Deutsch)

The conference was rounded off by a practical panel discussion, which provided valuable insights into dealing with sexually assaulted children and young people. The exchange between the participants emphasised how important cooperation and knowledge transfer are for dealing with this sensitive topic.

The Child Protection Conference 2024 was organised in close cooperation between the district of Nordhausen, the Youth Department and Nordhausen University of Applied Sciences. The event was also funded by the Thuringian Ministry of Education, Youth and Sport.

Many thanks to all the experts and contributors who made this important conference possible with their expertise and commitment.
