The experiment instructions can be found in the list of lecturers of the internship supervision.

Experiment 1: Windows Server 2008 operating system

The aim is to install the Windows Server operating system. The aim of the installation is to acquire knowledge of the hardware requirements necessary to install the above-mentioned operating system.

In particular, the test also serves to prepare for the later integration of the server into a practice network. For this reason, the setup of protocols and services and their configuration is also the focus of the experiment.

Experiment 2: Setting up users and user groups and account policies

Once the server operating system has been installed, the aim is to practise using it securely and creating user and group accounts.

Assigning specific rights and setting up a user environment are at the centre of the lab exercise.

The secure configuration of a server operating system is to be simulated.

The main focus is on dealing with the Server Manager, computer administration and the local security policy.

Experiment 3: Setting up user policies and user profiles

After focussing on security guidelines in connection with account and user rights in experiment 2, this experiment will train further security and usage criteria. In particular, setting up user-defined policies using the "Microsoft Management Console" is practised.

Local and binding, server-stored user profiles are set up to provide the individual user with "their" desktop environment each time they log on.

Experiment 4: Setting up user policies and user profiles

After focussing on the local server in experiment 3, this experiment looks at the server in the company network. A new network topology is set up for this purpose.

It is important in your preparation that you inform yourself about the different network topologies under W2k8 and familiarise yourself with the possibilities of static name resolution.
