Possible applications

This laboratory is assigned to the Power and Working Machines working group and is used in teaching both in the Bachelor's degree programme Regenerative Energy Technology (RET) as well as in the Master's programme Renewable Energy Systems (RES) utilised. In the field of research, depending on the respective research projects, investigations are carried out on flow and volumetric machines, combustion engines or even complete ORC systems, such as those used for waste heat utilisation.

Equipment

The laboratory contains the following general equipment:

  • Göttingen-type wind tunnel
  • Vibration-insulated clamping plate with air springs
  • Closed test box for the enclosure of test benches
  • Hot compressed air compressor (9 bar, 130 °C) for testing volumetric expansion machines
  • Thermal oil circuit (300 °C, 72 kW) to simulate waste heat potential (reactivation necessary)
  • Cold water supply (70 kW, 10 °C) as a heat sink and for cooling units
  • DC pendulum machine (12 kW) for recording mechanical power
  • Workstation with appropriate software for signal processing and signal evaluation.

Software

Depending on the area of application and task, various software packages are available for the integration of the respective measuring systems, for example:

  • Engineering Equation Solver (EES)
  • MATLAB & Simulink
  • LabVIEW.
