Since July 2020, Nordhausen University of Applied Sciences has had a wind tunnel of Göttingen design, which was manufactured by Hyperschall- & Strömungstechnik GmbH. It has a wide range of uses, from teaching to research and services.
As part of the "Wind Energy Systems" and "Wind Power Plants" modules, it forms the centre of the Practical experimentsin which the students independently carry out pressure and force measurements on aerodynamic profiles with appropriate supervision. They not only gain an insight into flow measurement technology, but also use the LabVIEW environment developed for the wind tunnel, an up-to-date software tool for recording and analysing measured values. The combination of the aerodynamic content taught in the lecture and the practical application helps students to both link and internalise the knowledge they have acquired.
In the field of Research the wind tunnel is used in research projects in the field of wind turbines and aircraft systems. In addition to measuring various aerodynamic profiles, models of developed designs can also be assembled and analysed using measurement technology. Various software tools are available for analysing the results. In addition to its use in research and teaching, we also provide the wind tunnel with appropriate support as a Service for companies available.
