With Prof. Dr Britta Gebhard, the "Transdisciplinary Early Intervention" and "Special Needs Education" degree programmes at Nordhausen University of Applied Sciences are receiving professional reinforcement.

Prof. Dr Britta Gebhard has been Professor of Early Intervention since 1 March this year and is currently the youngest professor at Nordhausen University of Applied Sciences. She is an expert in the field of early intervention for children with developmental impairments or impending disabilities and their families. She has a particular focus on children with motor impairments and chronic illnesses.

Previously, Britta Gebhard was a research assistant at TU Dortmund University in the Department of Early Intervention and Physical Disability Education. She is also editor of the scientific journal "motorik". Most recently, she worked as a junior professor at the University of Oldenburg in the field of education and didactics for chronic and progressive illnesses as well as physical and motor impairments.

The scientist's current research focuses on

  • the social participation of children with disabilities and chronic illnesses and the validation of participation measurement tools,
  • the inclusion and re-integration of children with physical and motor impairments at school,
  • Qualitative analysis of transition phases between rehabilitation clinic and school after a traumatic brain injury
  • as well as self-concept development and movement-orientated self-concept promotion.

Britta Gebhard also sees her future research focus in the field of interdisciplinary early intervention in:

  • participation-orientated therapy and support planning,
  • analysing impact factors in early intervention
  • and in the investigation of transdisciplinary cooperation between different players in early intervention.

"I am delighted to be able to teach and conduct research at Nordhausen University of Applied Sciences in order to promote evidence-based practice in early intervention nationally and to contribute to the international discourse. It is very important to me to inspire students for practice-orientated research projects and thus increase the effectiveness and efficiency of curative education in practice. Interdisciplinary early intervention offers an excellent field of teaching and research for this, characterised by various related disciplines," explains the newly appointed professor
