The Faculty of Economic and Social Sciences offers its students a university education that prepares them for work in companies, social and charitable organisations and the public sector in a practical and targeted manner.
Small seminar groups support practice-orientated learning.

Nordhausen University of Applied Sciences offers several engineering degree programmes with excellent career prospects.
Numerous contacts and collaborations with industry as well as research projects carried out on behalf of industry and business make the degree programmes particularly practice-oriented.
An employer brand isn’t just something that exists on paper.
It stems from the question of what an organisation stands for, what makes it special, and how it communicates this identity both internally and externally.
Over the past few months, the ProfX team has been working closely with an external agency to examine Nordhausen University of Applied Sciences’ employer brand: What sets Nordhausen University of Applied Sciences apart as an employer? What do we stand for? And how can we make this even more visible in future?
Now is the time to share some initial insights.
Over the next few days, we’ll be unveiling a new look for our employer brand.
And until then, here’s just a little taster for today. 😊
The employer brand was developed as part of the ‘FH-Personal’ project, which was funded by the Federal Ministry of Research, Technology and Space (BMFTR) and the GWK.

Students are under enormous pressure: rising costs, the pressure to perform, loneliness and mental strain are often part of everyday student life.
This is where @hochschulsozialarbeit.ndh comes in: it offers confidential counselling, provides support during crises and paves the way for students to successfully complete their studies. But this vital project is at risk of coming to an end in late 2026!
If we want education to remain fair, we must not cut back here – because behind every degree course there is a person.

Where on earth have all these cars ended up? 🚗
What is now solely a footpath was actually still a car park in the late 1990s. Today, the car park is right next to it – the path now belongs to pedestrians. 🚶♀️🚶♂️
At first glance, the AKI – the August Kramer Institute – in the background doesn’t look as though, a few years later, it would be home to state-of-the-art technology in the fields of energy systems, materials and process engineering, and geoengineering. 😉
Did you wonder about the cars on the pavement, or did you spot straight away where the photo was taken? 😊

🤝 Last Wednesday, we had a visit from our Turkish partner university @ksu.edu.tr 🎓
A year ago, we signed an Erasmus+ agreement with our partner university due to the high level of academic compatibility between our two departments.
During this visit, Prof. Dr Jörg Wagner, Frank Einicke, Prof. Dr Michael Rutz, @hike.startups and @hsn_international were able to show Prof. Dr Özdeş Çermik the study, learning and teaching facilities at Nordhausen University of Applied Sciences. 🏫
The meeting also explored opportunities to strengthen future collaboration: in particular, options that could be implemented swiftly were identified for the English-taught Master’s programmes in engineering and for guest lectures in the field of engineering as part of the International Project Week. ⚙️🌍

Creativity brings people together. Diversity makes our community visible.
Four afternoons, lots of creative ideas and even more enriching encounters: at Art together – Diversity Edition, students, university staff and members of the local community came together to explore themes such as identity, belonging and diversity through art.
The result was not only collages, paintings and collaborative works – but also new perspectives, inspiring conversations and valuable encounters.
The pictures show some highlights from this special series of workshops.
Many thanks to all the participants and organisers who brought this creative space to life! Events like this show how universities can create spaces where a sense of community flourishes and diversity can be experienced first-hand.
Which perspective has got you thinking recently? Please feel free to share your thoughts with us in the comments.

🎉 Happy 25th work anniversary!
Last week, we had the pleasure of honouring two special service anniversaries: Roberto Auer and Sandra Thomas were presented with certificates from the Free State of Thuringia to mark their 25 years of service in the public sector. 👏
Our university president, Prof. Dr Jörg Wagner, presented the awards in person and expressed his gratitude for their long-standing loyalty, their great dedication and their valuable work for our university. 💙
👉 Since 2001, Roberto Auer has been supporting the further development of research, collaboration and knowledge transfer within the Department of Research and Science Outreach.
👉 Sandra Thomas has been part of the university for 25 years and, as the President’s secretary in the Executive Board, uses her considerable organisational skills to ensure that day-to-day university operations run smoothly.
We’d like to say: Happy anniversary, and we look forward to many more years together! 🎓😊

How is the energy transition affecting your household?
Come and visit the Institute for Renewable Energy Technology (in.RET) at Nordhausen University of Applied Sciences at the 3rd Environment Day in Gernrode.
You can send us your annual electricity consumption and – if applicable – your gas or heating costs by 20 August 2026.
We are drawing up two scientific comparison scenarios:
• Renewable energy
• Fossil fuels
On 30 August, we will explain the results to you in person at our stand.
📧
Please note: This service is not an energy assessment, but rather a scientific modelling of various energy scenarios.
