What I like about the degree programme is the interactivity in the lectures, especially from the 3rd semester onwards. I also like the way the lecturers teach the content and try to show you practical things so that you can take something away with you after your studies.

As a student, I particularly appreciated the practical approach to teaching and the personal dialogue at eye level with the professors - you were always supported and taken seriously. At the same time, the green campus with its pond, bees and squirrels offers a really pleasant learning atmosphere.
Today - as a research assistant in the „QUANT-GPICz“ project and hike - I particularly enjoy the open, friendly team spirit and the short distances across the campus, which make everyday working life uncomplicated. I deal with new topics every day and learn a lot of new things.

I like the family environment at the university. Professors and lecturers know you by name and even the canteen staff know what my favourite side dish is on schnitzel day. My degree programme (Health and Social Work, 5th semester) offers me a huge range of future employment opportunities. I can gain a foothold in almost any social organisation later on. But the healthcare sector also has a number of opportunities in store for me. I think hardly any other degree programme is so universal.

Four afternoons, lots of creative ideas and even more enriching encounters: at Art together – Diversity Edition, students, university staff and members of the local community came together to explore themes such as identity, belonging and diversity through art.
The result was not only collages, paintings and collaborative works – but also new perspectives, inspiring conversations and valuable encounters.

Last week, we had the pleasure of honouring two special service anniversaries: Roberto Auer and Sandra Thomas were presented with certificates from the Free State of Thuringia to mark their 25 years of service in the public sector. 👏
Our university president, Prof. Dr Jörg Wagner, presented the awards in person and expressed his gratitude for their long-standing loyalty, their great dedication and their valuable work for our university. 💙
👉 Since 2001, Roberto Auer has been supporting the further development of research, collaboration and knowledge transfer within the Department of Research and Science Outreach.
👉 Sandra Thomas has been part of the university for 25 years and, as the President’s secretary in the Executive Board, uses her considerable organisational skills to ensure that day-to-day university operations run smoothly.

Turning OLD into NEW, engineer-style! 🛠️🌱
A new lease of life for old pressure vessels! As part of the „Green Campus“ module, students on the MAB, WINTEC and RET courses have built a sustainable seating area from two disused pressure vessels from the AKI.
Scrap metal has been transformed into a new meeting place on campus: two benches and a lounging area are now ready for you to relax, socialise and work!
The path to the project:
🛠️ MAB: Cutting open the boiler & welding in a metal frame
🪵 WINTEC: Construction of the timber structure
🎨 RET: Long-lasting corrosion protection & glaze
Despite shortages of materials and tight deadlines, the result is clear: genuine upcycling for our university! 🌍
📍 Location: You can currently try out the seating area right in front of the AKI before the SG Bau decides on its final location.

Last week it was time to get the bowls and pots out again! 👩🍳🥣
Our third nutrition workshop for staff and students at HSN focused entirely on the following topic:
✨ „Anti-stress nutrition & mood-boosting food“ ✨
Divided into two groups – one in the morning and one in the afternoon – the participants cooked together, tasted the food and discussed how healthy eating can be easily incorporated into their stressful daily lives as students and professionals.
With delicious recipes, lots of practical tips and a relaxed atmosphere, it was clear that healthy eating doesn’t have to be complicated – and, above all, it can be fun! 😊
