Nordhausen University of Applied Sciences is pleased to announce the launch of the project โWORT Nord - Weltoffene Region Thรผringens: Talente binden, Zukunft sichern - fรผr eine zukunftsfeste Region Nordthรผringenโ on 1 November 2025. The university received the official notice of approval from the Thuringian State Office of Administration on 11 December. The project is scheduled to run for three years up to and including October 2028 and is being funded by the Free State of Thuringia as part of the Skilled Labour and Further Training Directive with funds from the European Social Fund Plus (ESF+) totalling over 2 million.
Nordhausen University of Applied Sciences and the Mittelbau-Dora Concentration Camp Memorial signed a cooperation agreement on 10 December. The aim of the agreement is to strengthen cooperation in research, studies, teaching and further education in the long term.
As part of the ZO.RRO II research project* funded by the Free State of Thuringia, a current study by the Institute for Regenerative Energy Technology (in.RET) at Nordhausen University of Applied Sciences is analysing how different expansion paths for wind power will affect the structure and overall costs of the energy supply in Thuringia up to 2045. The analysis is based on a detailed energy system model that maps the regional energy supply over the course of the hour and takes into account both technical potential and future energy requirements.

The Free State of Thuringia and its ten state universities today ceremoniously signed the agreement to extend the Higher Education Framework Agreement V by one year until the end of 2026 in the Thuringian state parliament. The extension agreement provides the universities with stability, continuity and planning security for the coming year in a phase of demographic and financial challenges. It enables a 3.5 per cent increase in state funding for 2026, which can also be used to cover the above-average growth in supply costs, thus ensuring the continuous fulfilment of tasks in research and teaching.
Worldwide, a woman is murdered every ten minutes because she is a woman - and in Germany, too, such a femicide takes place almost every day (according to the Federal Criminal Police Office, 360 completed homicides of women and girls in 2023). 63 per cent of all politically active women experience digital violence. 90 per cent of young women feel strong to extreme fear when they meet unknown men at night.
For two days, the Audimax at Nordhausen University of Applied Sciences was a think tank for the entire region. Prof. Dr Uta Breuer and Prof. Dr Elmar Hinz are the first researchers from Nordhausen University of Applied Sciences to be awarded the Thuringian Research Prize 2025 in the Applied Research category. The award recognises the โCarboMassโ project, which they implemented in the region from 2021 to 2024 with funding from the Federal Ministry of Education and Research. The project investigated whether municipal sewage sludge can be used to cover potash dumps after a pyrolysis process and mixing with biomass.
